A stunning natural open-air theatre above the sea.
On the slopes of Mount Inici, the ancient fishing village of Castellammare del Golfo is dominated by the Arab-Norman castle which gave its name to the town.
Castellammare served as the port of ancient Egesta, later known as Segesta, a few kilometres away, where valuable archaeological discoveries can still be found. The renowned author Cicero, a frequent visitor of the Segestane baths, referred to it as ‘Emporium Segestanorum’. In his work, ‘Verrine’, he recalls that ‘the inhabitants received their guests with kindness and treated them with great courtesy’.
